UK Moths Are Emerging

The Oak Beauty (Biston strataria) in Bristol

I spotted this well camouflaged Oak Beauty moth resting on the ground whilst I was visiting a supplier. The Oak Beauty is a very attractive and fairly large moth with two distinctive brown bands on the wings.

The Oak Beauty Moth is also among the very first moths to emerge at the beginning of the year, so is only seen between March and May.

As the name suggests it The Oak Beauty larvae feeds on Oak, but has also been recorded feeding on other plant species.

Enjoy!
